IP PBX VoIP
An IP PBX VoIP solution is based upon a business installing the main telephone system control unit locally. Handsets can remain as traditional digital connections, though remote workers may connect to the system with a VoIP handset.
IP PBX's may also be networked together using an extranet and VoIP based connections. Today with the advent of SIP it is also possible to connect a IP PBX to a xDSL circuit to allow outbound call costs to be reduced with the major advantage of also be able to retain your main business telephone number in the event of a company relocation.
Some business prefer this solution over a remotely hosted IP solution as it enables greater control for programming purposes and security as the main system control unit is housed and accessed onsite.
Typical disadvantages to this solution could include-
- Higher upfront set up costs
- Waiting time for an engineer to come so site to replace a faulty part.
- Additional annual costs for maintenance and servicing.
- Resiliance / redudancy could be expensive as a second system would need to be located elswhere.
